Working in the sheets
Products, Customers, Invoices and Transactions in Light are sheets. You can read them like a table and edit them like a spreadsheet.
Editing a cell
- Click a cell and start typing. What you type replaces the value.
- Press Enter or Tab to save and move on. Esc cancels.
- Saving happens as you go — there is no Save button.
- The bar above the sheet shows the whole value of the selected cell, however narrow the column, and explains why a cell cannot be edited ("read-only") when that is the case.
- If something cannot be saved — a price with letters in it, say — the cell stays marked and the bar says what was wrong, so you can fix it.
Some cells are read-only on purpose. A sale rung up at the till, for example, is changed from the till's own record, not from the Transactions sheet.
Moving around
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | Move one cell |
| Tab / Shift+Tab | Next / previous cell |
| Home / End | First / last column |
| Page Up / Page Down | Jump a screen |
| Ctrl+Enter | Open the row's full record |
Copy, paste and fill
- Ctrl+C copies the selected cells in a form Excel and Google Sheets understand.
- Ctrl+V pastes a block from Excel cell for cell into the sheet.
- Paste rows below the last row (or a sheet with a header row) to add new records — a whole price list in one go.
- Ctrl+D fills the value down into the selected cells.
- Delete or Backspace clears the selected cells where that is allowed.
- Ctrl+A selects everything.
Undo
Ctrl+Z undoes your last change and Ctrl+Y redoes it — including changes to several cells at once.
Totals
Money and stock columns show a total at the foot of the sheet. Totals are always per currency: if you price in shillings and dollars, the sheet shows one currency at a time with a switch between them, and never adds the two together.
Importing a file
Import on Products, Customers, Invoices and Transactions takes a CSV, Excel (.xlsx) or JSON file of up to 2,000 rows:
- Upload — choose the file. For products, pick where imported stock should be counted.
- Map columns — SBB guesses which column is which; correct anything it got wrong.
- Review and resolve — see every row before anything is saved, with problems flagged.
- Import — only then is anything written.
Each import screen offers a CSV template to start from. Moving from QuickBooks? Use Move from QuickBooks in the sidebar instead — see Migrate to SBB.
Keyboard keys on each page
- / jumps to the page's search box.
- N starts a new record on Products, Customers and Invoices.
- I records money in and O money out on Transactions.
Letters only do this when you are not typing in a cell or a box.
